7 Signs That You Need a Website Redesign

Wednesday, April 04, 2018

20 years ago, just having a website meant that you were ahead of the game. Today - technology is ever evolving and users are becoming incredibly discriminating. It’s important to not only have a website but make sure it’s a really good website. Here are a few ways you can tell if your website may need a facelift in 2018.

1. It’s Not Mobile Friendly

Your market has gone mobile. Studies show that 25% of internet users in the US only access the internet on a mobile device. So many potential customers are utilizing their mobile devices to find you. That means it’s important to make sure that your website functions well on those mobile devices. Not sure what your website looks like on mobile? Do a quick test here:

2. Your Visitors Aren’t Staying On the Site

Using a web analytics program can help reveal your site's strengths or weaknesses. You may have a high bound rate, low time on site, and low average pages per visit. These stats can be strong indicators of whether you need to have some work done on your website. In many cases, it shows that your visitors aren’t finding your site useful. This doesn’t always mean that you need a complete overhaul of your site. Yet it does mean that you should take an honest look at it. Let a professional web designer tell you what some of the weaknesses are and then help you correct them.

3. You Have Flash

If you have Flash on your site, it’s been outdated for a while. iPhone and iPad devices do not support Flash of any kind. Along with that, major search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo can’t read it. Not convinced? Your visitors also have to install a plugin (or the most updated version) for Flash to work. This can deter visitors who don’t want to deal with that, and you may have just lost a customer.

4. You Have low Search Engine Rankings

Google your business in incognito mode sometime. If you’re on page 2 or lower - you need to make some changes to your site. There are many reasons that your site could be ranking lower than you would like. It could be that the content on your site it old and needs to be updated. If your site was designed more than five years ago, it needs to be updated with current SEO trends. A lot can play into Google rankings, but the biggest thing to remember is that Google likes to see original, high-quality content on your site. This is also why companies with blogs perform so well ;).

5. It Looks Dated

The fact is, website design trends are always changing. If you have an older site, it won't be mimicking the updated styles that your customers are used to seeing. As you think about your site, think about this study by ResearchGate. It revealed that 94% of people say that websites with good designs are more trustworthy. You could be losing customers just because your site looks “old” and not even know it. Don't know if your site looks old? It was the bee's knees then, but wouldn't be able to hold
it's own now with modern SEO standards.

6. Your Site Is Slow

When someone visits a website, they expect it to load quickly and work efficiently. In fact, a study by KISSmetrics says that 47% of consumers expect that a web page will load in 2 seconds or less. While 40% of people will ABANDON a website that takes more than 3 seconds to load! A site that loads fast is important to your customers, which means it should be important to you.

7. You’ve Outgrown Your Website

A healthy business is always growing and changing over the years. It’s only natural to find that your website may not fit the needs or style of your company anymore. Perhaps you don’t have distinct calls to action, or your customers can’t find what’s relevant to them anymore. The good news is, a nice, new website could be an easy way to continue growing your business.
