GET TO KNOW US - Meet Laurel Leurquin

It's time to get to know your internet marketing team a little bit better!

Customer relationships are a two-way street - just as we try to get to know our clients, we make it easy for our clients to get to know us. We are currently in the middle of an ongoing blog series designed to help you better get to know our team of internet marketing professionals at the Lake of the Ozarks. So far we have introduced you to owners Mike and Sandy Waggett and team members Keith Lucas, Erin Burdette, Bailey Puppel, and Deanna Powell. This week, we're continuing the series by introducing you to one of our Social Media Coordinators and resident Graphic Designer, Laurel Leurquin.

Q:  What brought you to the Lake of the Ozarks?
A:  While I grew up only 45 minutes from the Lake of the Ozarks and was familiar with the area, getting married to my husband, Nathan, was what got me settled here. We both work locally (he works with Thomas Construction in Osage Beach), and look forward to staying around as long as life keeps us here!

Q:  How did you get started in the internet marketing field?
A:  I started in graphic design through high school and beyond - but that skill slowly branched out to managing social media accounts for friends, family, and the people I worked for. When I moved to the Lake after getting married and a position at MSW Interactive Designs opened, I applied. Almost two years later, I’m so glad that I have had the opportunity to work for Mike and Sandy.

Q:  What do you like most about your job?
A:  Where do I start?? I love the ability to learn about many different topics, as our clients are all very unique. I love being a part of a team that works hard to accomplish goals and cares about each other. I also love the flexibility that Mike and Sandy have provided in the job. I get to work from home a few days a week, and if you ever call the office and hear a baby babbling in the background, it’s because they let me bring my sweet little girl in to work with me. Finally, I love working under Mike and Sandy. They are truly the best employers I’ve ever worked for (sorry dad!), and their generosity to us and to others around the community is awe-inspiring.

Q:  What's your favorite thing to do when you're not at work?

A:  I love spending time with family. Whether it involves playing a mean game of Settlers of Catan, or watching TV shows and movies - we love spending time together. I also enjoy grabbing my camera and capturing fun shots, perfecting my coffee making skills with any number of coffee toys (espresso machine, French press, pour over, or percolater), cross stitching, listening to audio books, and spending time with friends.

Q:  Who's your family?
A:  My sweet husband, Nathan, and our 6-month old little girl, Talia, help keep me busy and entertained. My husband’s brother, Josh, also spends a lot of time with us, as he’s helping us grow and maintain a vineyard and orchard.

Q:  What did you want to be when you grew up?
A:  I had eclectic tastes, and went from wanting to be an artist, a nurse, a baker, and finally settled on graphic designer. Ironically, writing was never in the plan, but I’ve found something that I enjoy a lot more than I ever thought I would in blogging for my clients.

Q:  What's something that very few people know about you?
A:  I have an obsession with crafting with neckties. When I was fifteen, I tried my hand at making a skirt out of neckties, and after that the obsession began. Ever since then I’ve owned over 1,000 neckties, and I’ve made tea pot covers, curtains, Christmas tree skirts, aprons, Christmas stockings, purses, teddy bears, and I even recovered a wingback chair! In my spare time, I make custom creations for people out of their loved one’s neckties after they’ve passed on. I love being able to repurpose something sentimental into a usable object that can bring back so many happy memories.

Q:  What's on your bucket list?
A:  Someday I would like to have a vintage VW bug with wood bead seat covers and cruise down the highway listening to Billy Joel on the 8-track player, get my pilot’s license (like my dad), have bees, sheep, and ducks on our little farm, and visit Australia.

Q:  What is your favorite social media platform and why?
A:  I spend the most time on Facebook, sharing photos of our little family with our family all over the country. Yet, Pinterest appeals to my creative side and allows me to keep all of my ideas in one place.

Q:  Who inspires you?
A:  I really can’t pick just one. Everyone I’ve ever met has left a lasting impression on me and inspired me in ways they can’t imagine. My mom, dad, husband, and little girl have all been huge contributors in my life - and I look forward to meeting many others!
