Good News! Pinterest Now Offers Business Accounts
Did you know that 47% of U.S. online consumers have made a purchase based on recommendations from Pinterest? For those who are not familiar with Pinterest, it is a social media channel that allows you to organize and share images of your favorite things on a virtual “pin board”. If you have a Pinterest account, you can see almost anything from food to clothing to cool cars. Most people using Pinterest are women (80% of users as of June 2012) and Pinterest is experiencing 400% growth every month!
Pinterest now allows you to establish an account for your business. What does that mean for you? If you are a retailer, you can know quickly showcase your products on this powerful social channel. If you specialize in products for women, you can quickly grow a following that will eagerly share your cool stuff with a perfect audience of prospective customers.
Converting your personal Pinterest account into a Business account is a snap.
Pinterest provides a host of resources that are specifically to help businesses. Simply go to http://business.pinterest.com and they will guide you through the simple process of converting your account. They also provide widgets enabling you to embed Pinterest boards into your website, and widgets that enable you to create a button for your website to convert visitors into Pinterest followers.
Pinterest does require you to “verify” your website for the business account. They also require a top level domain … for example, www.yourcompany.com. If you are using Etsy, Shopify, or eBay as your main website, this feature is not available. Site verification can be a little “techie” as you need to upload a file provided by Pinterest to the server where your website is hosted. If you don’t know how to do this, your website administrator should be able to assist you.

With the added new ability to establish a Business account, you can now use this channel for business oriented posts while keeping a separate personal account for the pins you want to share only with your family and friends! (Oh, and on that note, next time you login to Pinterest be sure to check out the new “Secret” boards feature … perfect for pins you’d like to share only with a select few, or not at all).
